Great family getaway!

5 of 5 stars
Our family thoroughly enjoyed this rental. We were 3 families with 2-4 kids each and a set of grandparents. Ages of the kids were 7 to 21. We had a total of 17 and we all felt like we had plenty of space in the house, yard, beach and especially on the lake. Grandparents got to stay in the downstairs master bedroom/bath and each couple had their own bedroom upstairs. Most of the kids stayed in the bunk bed rooms upstairs. We loved the large open kitchen and dining area and the kids used the front playroom/air hockey table every night. All of the bathrooms and bedrooms were very clean and nice. Hall stairs and hallway upstairs were nice and wide. It is obvious that Jan takes pride in the nice looking, clean environment the house provides. The kids often spread out either on the floor in the front play room or in the dining area to play cards in the am and at night. We used the fire pit almost every night and played football/baseball in the yard after dinner. During the day we spent most of our time at the beach or on the water. The jet ski worked perfectly. The pontoon did too other than Jan had to swap out the newer one and gave us the older one for our last afternoon due to a failure of the starter. Jan was great to work with and answered all of our questions from beginning to end. At this time of the year there were really no bugs until after sundown starting about 930pm and the water at the beach was surprisingly pleasant/warm. Very few people out on the water so we didn't feel crowded at all. The town of cadillac was close by and we went to a movie there on a rainy day and enjoyed a great family dinner at the Clam Lake Beer Co. Small detail that could have been a little better - Grill did not quite heat evenly. This is a great place to stay, you should definitely go for it!
Great Spot

5 of 5
Our entire family of 10 adults and 5 kids stayed for Thanksgiving weekend. Very spacious common area that allowed for everyone to interact and never feel crowded. Plenty of bedrooms and beds and the yard size was big enough to play a kickball tournament for the entire family as well. The stars one of the nights were possibly the best I have ever seen and we even saw the northern lights on thanksgiving night. The unlimited fire wood was a huge perk because my dad had a fire going at all times to enjoy while watching football or playing board games. Jan responded immediately when I reached out and was very accommodating.

A beautiful vacation spot!
We are all able to fit under one roof, our children & grandchildren. Lots of room both inside and outside. Everything is very clean. There is really no need to leave the property, because everything you need is there. Great customer service, Jan always picks up the phone or gets right back to you. We have returned and will continue to. I have also recommended it to others.

Excellent accommodations!
Finally we found a place that fits us all!! We have 10 adults and 10 young children and this "cottage" was the perfect place for our family. There is plenty of room indoors and out and there are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for a large group. It allowed parents with napping children to still be a part of the family group while their children slept in a quiet place. The cottage is well-maintained and clean and the lake is beautiful too!

Excellent Vacation Home!
Property was clean, very spacious, beautifully situated by the lake. Also as a bonus, the construction of the house makes it very sound proof. Meaning what is going on downstairs won't wake up the people up stairs, so when the kids go down for bed they will stay asleep. Definitely would recommend and will return in the future!

Memorial Weekend Fun!!
Our entire family has enjoyed this home for three years and each year has been fantastic. The home is spacious, clean and well equipped. When the grill broke the first day, Jan's family purchased a new grill and brought it to the home within an hour. They are so willing to answer any questions or help out if there is a problem which we have not experienced other than the grill. It has been a bit cold for swimming on Memorial Weekend, but there were those who still swam to the platform in the water to sunbathe. The younger children thoroughly enjoyed playing in the sand at the beach area. The home is close to town so our teens were able to enjoy a little tennis and basketball at the city courts and, of course, we visited the incredible ice cream shop!! We would return in 2016 except we have a family wedding. Jan

All what you need for a great weekend!
This great place offered enough room for 20 people to get together and create everlasting memories. The house is well equipped with everything that you need in and out (kitchen, pit fire), rooms were cleaned and spacious, and the living big enough to fit all of us for table games, karaoke and a dance. The fall colours are speechless in this period of the year and we look forward for a week in summer. Thanks for having us!

Happy New Years!
We have made it a tradition to go "Up North" for New Years with our families! This beautiful property was exactly as described and did serve as a family retreat for us. The kids enjoyed bundling up and playing in the snow. And the walk to the road and back was perfect for a bit of exercise in the winter air. The men were able to enjoy watching the Spartans win the Rose Bowl as well! We would definitely return to this home again and would love to see it in the summer months!

Fun filled family gathering
We just returned from a great weekend at this vacation home. I agree with an earlier review that the pictures don't capture how spacious the home is. We had a large group with lots of small children and never felt crowded. The kitchen was well stocked and the home had everything we needed. My nephew was on call for work and the internet was very reliable making it able for him to stay the weekend. There were lots of kids toys for both indoor and out and the air hockey was an added bonus. We had a great time down at the beach. The kids swam out to the floating dock and enjoyed the slide and diving board. We cooked over an open fire which was very handy having a firepit by the house as well as at the beach. Owners were great to work with. Very responsive to calls and emails and made sure things were taken care of. Overall a great experience for our group. We will be back again.

Much more spacious than photos show
My rather large family and I stayed here just this last weekend of May. We were simply amazed by how much space was in the living/dining room. The beach was also nice and outside areas were good to get the kids outside. The lake offered me and my brothers ample opportunity to fish the lake. I caught 10 large mouth bass and 1 huge Northern Pike while my younger brother caught around 15 bass plus 1 that had to have weighed 3 lbs. The only issue we had was with the pontoon which had a minor fuel leak; which I understand has been completely taken care of. Really, a very nice house with plenty of beds and two fridges and a game room for when there are rainy days. I hope to bring my family back to Lake City next year.

Wow!
This place was spectacular! The massage chairs were fantastic, the dining/kitchen/living area were nice and open and the kids had a great time running around. Wi-fi and Directv made staying connected and watching MSU football very easy. The kitchen was well-furnished with all of our cooking needs met. 2 refrigerators and a washer and dryer was perfect! Outside was very peaceful, and the neighbors to the west of the house were so friendly, they shared some fresh-caught salmon with us! The steps to the beach (there are 40 of them), made for a challenge when carrying all of things back up at the end of the week. But, the beach itself is very sandy with a great firepit. The kids loved the diving dock with the slide! I only wish renting a watercraft was a bit less of an expense, but totally understand that maintaining them is an expense to the owner. All in all, it was a great vacation made even better by our wonderful accommodations. We'll see you next year!

Women's Church Retreat
We had 15 women come up to this lovely home for a 3 day retreat. It was perfect. The house was lovely and so very welcoming. The dining room/living room combination made plenty of space. It was lovely out and all of us enjoyed sitting around the fire in the evening and the sun in the day. The beds were very comfortable. The owners went out of their way to make sure that all of our questions were answered and everything prepared for us. It was great.

Wonderful home for a large group!
What a great time our group of 17 had at Lake Missaukee...in the winter! We arrived to a beautiful, frozen lake, on which our kids took great pleasure in exploring. We had hoped to snowmobile during our stay, but alas, there wasn't enough snow. The owner had provided us with the name of a company that rented snowmobiles as there are more than 200 miles of trails nearby! Instead, we spent a few hours each day at a nearby sledding hill, and the rest of our time was spent playing games, keeping toasty by the indoor fire, and just enjoying each other's company. The older kids in our group loved hanging in the game room with the massage chairs, while the younger kids found plenty do to without the aid of electronic devices. The lack of snow did not detract from a fantastic getaway at all! The home is lovely with plenty of space for multiple families, including two huge tables in the dining area allowing us to sit down together as a group. We'd love to go back and would highly recommend it to other families seeking a winter getaway!

Loved it, loved everything about this home and location!!!!
Our group consisted of three families with young children...... this home was the perfect setting for all of us to comfortably enjoy time together, but there was also plenty of space to meet everyone's needs, including our youngsters who nap. The home itself is very inviting and feels like home with so many wonderful amenities; especially the plush mattresses. The property itself is large, with plenty of room for soccer and baseball games and option of campfire by the home or down by the beach. The sandy, large beach area was down a flight of stairs, which provided us peace of mind with young kiddos. We thoroughly enjoyed the warm clean water, which was shallow for a great distance. We also enjoyed biking in the surrounding area, which we all really enjoyed. Thank you for your gracious hospitality; we truly loved our stay!

Pleasantly Surprised
We rented this house for a week long family reunion. Ten adults and six children. From the minute we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with all of the work that has been put into the property since our rental agreement. The house was immaculate, tastefully decorated and there was plenty of space for our large gathering. The owners had thought of almost every amenity needed for such a large group - especially extra seating on the patio, two coffee pots, plenty of dining space, etc. The property was great and there was more than enough room for the kids to run around and play. The eight bedrooms were very spacious and the three and a half baths were great considering the number of people we had. The lake was great - very sandy bottom and shallow, excellent for swimming and many fish were caught right by the drop off. The owners are very friendly and accommodating and it were very approachable regarding questions and concerns. Cadillac is just a quick drive away where there were numerous options for grocery stores and restaurants. Our group visited some of the local golf courses and parks for the kids and were very pleased with our stay. We will definitely be going back again and would recommend this vacation rental to anyone looking for a peaceful family getaway.

We do a family reunion vacation every year, we call it our PowWow. This place has been one of the best so far. We came with 14 people over 18, 1 teenager, and 3 under 8. Lots of space - from the house, through the yard, all the way to the lake. Plenty of space for everyone to not feel crowded. The house is huge and has lots of amenities. The kids loved the air hockey table, the adults loved the 3 massage chairs. The kitchen had everything we could need, and 2 refrigerators/freezers held everything we needed also. The lake was awesome with it's long shallow area for the little ones - they felt like big kids because they were so far from shore, but the water never went over their shoulders. The teens and twenty somethings enjoyed the raft with the slide and diving board. Lake City had a small supermarket that had pretty much everything, and with Cadillac only about 10 minutes away (Meijer, Walmart, Home Depot), we had no worries. Jan was great, answered all our questions, and explained everything completely. It was an awesome week for us, and if/when we decide to re-visit one of our PowWow sites, this place will be at the top of the list. Thank You All members of the B&D PowWow
